Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental and health issues of our time. If nothing changes, plastic waste in the environment could increase by 50% by 2040, with disastrous consequences for ecosystems and human health.
To highlight the urgent need for action on this issue, we will be participating in the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), which will take place from 9 to 13 June in Nice.
At BeMed, we act as a catalyst for change in the Mediterranean. Through our Community of Practice, we promote the sharing of experiences and the dissemination of good practices among local stakeholders. Through our Business Club, we also facilitate dialogue between scientists, NGOs and businesses in order to develop concrete and appropriate solutions.
In collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, we are organising a side event during UNOC3 entitled: ‘How to align the reality on the ground with funding priorities?’
Stakeholders committed to combating plastic pollution in the Mediterranean often encounter difficulties in implementing long-term actions, particularly due to a lack of sustainable funding. For their part, donors want to support effective projects that meet specific requirements and have a measurable impact. This workshop aims to create a space for dialogue to better align the needs on the ground with the expectations of funders, thereby maximising the chances of implementing sustainable actions in the region.
We will also be present at several key moments :
Plastic pollution is a problem we can solve. We hope that these collective efforts will contribute to the adoption of an ambitious global treaty on plastics that will bring about major changes to protect people and the planet.
