Tunisia, on the southern shore of the Mediterranean, is heavily affected by plastic pollution. Marine plastic pollution causes severe ecological and economic impacts, killing 1.5 million marine animals each year, affecting 1,400 species, and costing Tunisia’s blue economy over $20 million annually.
Couscous Édition is launching a special issue of its magazine “The door leading to the sea” to raise awareness among children aged 6 to 11 about plastic pollution. With a print run of 5,000 copies, the magazine will be distributed free of charge in public and private primary schools in Tunis.
To accompany this distribution, illustrator Rym Jâafra and scriptwriter Yassine Ellil will visit 40 schools over a five-month period to introduce the comic book heroes and raise awareness among pupils in the classroom. The project has been officially approved by the Ministry of National Education.
