Bringing together Tunisian stakeholders to prepare the action plan

As part of the BeMed+ project, a workshop was held on 30 October in Monastir, bringing together key regional stakeholders for a day of collective action aimed at reducing plastic pollution in Tunisia.

The session was opened by Mr Issa Moussa, Governor of Monastir, and Ms Awatef Messaî, Director General of Environment and Quality of Life at the Ministry of Environment. We were pleased to welcome Ms. Sabria Bnouni, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Environment, Ms. Imène Meliane, Vice-President of IUCN, Mr. Hatem Ben Belgacem, IUCN Focal Point at the Ministry of Environment, as well as representatives from the Municipality of Monastir.

Amjed KHIAR EDDINE (Notre Grand Bleu) presented the BeMed+ project, followed by Dr Wassim CHAABANE (RE-SWEEP), who presented the results of the plastic pollution assessment and the preliminary action plan.

On the agenda, participants reviewed the draft action plan, participated in small group discussions in the sports, HoReCa and waste management sectors to prioritise measures, collectively shared their conclusions and integrated relevant links with the national strategy into the detailed measures.

This workshop contributed to the creation of a sectoral roadmap with clear priorities to bring about concrete and meaningful change in the pilot region.

The BeMed+ project benefits from the generous support of the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM), the Aether Fund of the Foundation for Future Generations, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Didier and Martine Primat Foundation, the Audemars-Watkins Foundation (FAW), the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and the France-IUCN partnership.
