This week was dedicated to meaningful exchanges, collaborations, and collective action. Every year, BeMed brings together past and current project leaders for an in-person gathering to strengthen connections, share experiences, and build synergies across the region.
This year, more than 50 stakeholders from 11 countries came together with one shared ambition: fostering a strong regional dynamic to tackle plastic pollution together.
The events in details:
On 5 May in Marrakech, a workshop on sustainable local value chains was held as part of the CapiMed+ project, co-organised by SMILO and MedWaves, with the aim of developing a shared understanding of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics and economic models based on reuse.
The day combined a tour of the circular initiatives at the Iberostar Wave of Change Palmeraie Marrakech hotel with collaborative workshops bringing together the seven projects supported by BeMed’s Call for project in the Mediterranean islands, to share practical solutions for reducing plastic and strengthening local approaches to reuse.

During the first day, the members of the BeMed community met, built new collaborations, and worked collectively on key aspects of the fight against plastic pollution, while also deepening their understanding of global advocacy concepts.
The second day focused on reflecting on the role of the BeMed Community of Practice, identifying its value for members, and defining concrete priorities for facilitation, collaboration, and governance for the years ahead.
Over two inspiring and productive days, participants explored key topics such as advocacy, regulations, municipal action plans, and the future of the Community of Practice. Through creative workshops and collaborative reflections, participants shared experiences, identified new opportunities for cooperation, and worked together on ways to strengthen regional impact.
Thanks to all participants for their engagement!
Together, we can make real progress in the fight against plastic pollution.
