This initiative is dedicated to the collection of plastic waste in 10 rural villages in the municipality of Selenica located on the banks of the Shushica River. Until now, the vast majority of plastic waste from these villages was directly dumped into the environment and carried into the Adriatic Sea by the river.

Main results of the project:

The project focused on three main areas:

  • Introduction of selective sorting: With the support of the municipality of Selenica, Green Vision has installed sorting containers in 10 villages. An awareness campaign has been conducted among residents and schools to explain the importance of waste sorting. A video illustrating the impact of plastic in the sea has also been posted on social networks.
  • Raising awareness and changing attitudes: A documentary, produced with Green Vision, highlighted the gradual change in habits in the villages concerned. Although the association does not have any figures, the positive feedback from the municipalities and residents is testament to the maintenance of good sorting practices.
  • Clean-up campaigns and collective actions: Several clean-up operations have been organized on the banks of the Shushice River. In collaboration with the Royal Albania Foundation and SEEP, Green Vision has produced an awareness guide for residents. The association also took part in a visit to the Vjosa estuary, organized by SEEP, to demonstrate how river waste ends up in the sea. A beach clean-up was carried out on this occasion, benefiting from extensive local and national media coverage.

This project has helped to establish new waste management practices and raise awareness of the impact of plastic on the environment.
