Calls for projects
The context
Through its Call for Micro-Initiatives (CMI) and its Call for Projects in the Mediterranean Islands (CPMI), BeMed provides financial support to stakeholders in the field over a period of one to two years.
These projects can be of various types: from reduction of the use, to data collection, awareness-raising, waste management, recycling, advocacy and the search for alternatives to plastic. They are part of a unique local context, which the project leader is familiar with.

Frequently asked questions
Is it possible to apply again if you have already benefitted from a BeMed grant?
BeMed can support an organisation up to twice within the micro-initiatives call.
It is entirely possible to participate a second time in the call for micro-initiatives once the first project has been completed. However, only projects for which final reports have been received and analysed can be selected a second time.
Second micro-initiative support for an organisation that has been selected once under the call for micro-initiatives and once under the call for projects in the islands is possible.
What is the aim of the BeMed call for micro-initiatives?
Through its call for micro-initiatives, BeMed seeks to support organizations that are taking action to combat plastic pollution. The aim is to fund a variety of actors working on the ground (private, non-profit, and public) so that the implemented actions contribute to a global transformation of our relationship with plastic across the Mediterranean. The aim of this call is to promote all initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution at source (raising awareness on this pollution, promoting relevant solutions, putting in place mechanisms that make solutions easy and effective, encouraging the elimination of unnecessary single-use plastic products, and encouraging the adoption of new regulations).
Great attention is paid to relevance in the local context where the actions are carried out, with the aim of ensuring the durability of the efforts made.
What are the BeMed funding conditions?
For micro-initiatives, projects proposals must not exceed a total budget of €45,000 (BeMed funding and co-funding combined). The maximum amount of BeMed funding that can be awarded is €15,000. The amount requested from BeMed in the application must not exceed 70% of the total project budget.
All expenses necessary for the implementation of the project activities are eligible. Their justification and estimate must be explained in the provisional budget.
How are applications assessed?
All applications received are assessed by the BeMed team, which checks their eligibility. Eligible applications are then assessed twice by two different reviewers according to the scoring grid specified in the call for applications. The reviewers are members of the BeMed network who are experts in plastic pollution.
A selection committee is then organised to discuss the projects that have been evaluated.
All applicants will receive a response by email from mid-March onwards. For those applicants who are selected, a meeting will be organised shortly after the selection committee meeting before the agreement process begins.
