Prince Albert II Foundation and Beyond Plastic Med organise a UNOC3 Side Event

Plastic pollution in the Mediterranean: how to align on-the-ground reality with funding priorities

The workshop aims to align field needs and donor requirements to define priorities and impact indicators for sustainable action against plastic pollution in the Mediterranean.

Summary

Stakeholders working on plastic pollution in the Mediterranean encounter difficulties in taking action and securing long-term funding. On the other hand, donors wish to support effective actions that meet their own requirements and have a measurable impact.
By bringing together both field actors and donors, the workshop aims to compare and align the needs on the ground with the requirements of the funders in order to optimize the chances of implementing and supporting sustainable actions in the different Mediterranean contexts.
In sub-groups, participants will work on two themes:

  • Difficulties on the ground and priorities for action to fight plastic pollution: identifying priorities for action according to the Mediterranean contexts, understanding the difficulties encountered and the needs on the ground, understanding how this aligns to the priorities and expectations of donors.
  • Measuring the impact of a project: identifying the right indicators to ensure the relevance of a project, removing obstacles and difficulties of measurement in the field, meeting the requirements of donors.
Because of the diversity of the socio-economic contexts the Mediterranean brings together, the conclusions of the workshop can resonate with the rest of the world.
