Mediterranean Oases in Tunisia: Acting for a Plastic-Free Sea

Association Citoyenneté et Développement Durable (ACDD) Gabès

The project “Mediterranean Oases in Tunisia: Acting for a Plastic-Free Sea !” led by the ACDD aimed to strengthen the role of local oasis communities in the fight against plastic pollution, while developing alternatives to plastic bags made from date palm by-products.

Main results:

  • Collaborative dynamic: Round tables were organized between Tunisian associations, strengthening collaboration and the collective fight against plastic pollution.
  • Strengthening of local capacities: 9 municipalities were made aware and trained to develop a municipal action plan against plastic pollution.
  • Development of alternatives: Two packaging prototypes made from date palm by-products have been produced, tested and evaluated. At this time, the association was supporting the creation of a production workshop for this packaging as part of the green economy.
