Plastic-free hotel in Sousse

Association Oxygène de Messadine (AOM)

‘Hôtel Sousse Sans Plastique’ is an initiative that aims to reduce plastic pollution in tourist establishments in Sousse, a key area for tourism in Tunisia. The project will analyse plastic use in hotels, restaurants and tea rooms to identify practices that can be improved. It will encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives, such as biodegradable or reusable materials, and will develop awareness-raising and training activities for local stakeholders.

Field studies will provide a better understanding of the impact of plastic. Training will be offered to hotel staff and young people, while pilot establishments will receive personalised support, with the creation of a digital guide to best practices. Finally, the project will mobilise the local community through clean-up campaigns, awareness-raising events and collaboration with municipal authorities and associations.

This inclusive approach will help preserve the coastal environment and strengthen Sousse’s image as a sustainable tourist destination.
