SOS Plastic Sfax

The SOS Plastic Sfax initiative consisted of bringing together and creating synergy between private sector stakeholders involved in the plastics industry in Sfax in order to raise awareness and secure their commitment to this issue. The association set up training workshops and a geographic information system to better visualise the plastics industry in Sfax and facilitate the identification of sources of pollution.

Main results of the project:

125 plastic companies identified and mapped via a database.
25 companies responded to a survey on their environmental practices.
Creation of a steering committee bringing together local authorities and stakeholders.
Mobilisation of private companies and the oil sector for clean-up and selective sorting initiatives.
Capacity building for stakeholders through training on waste management and communication.
Development of partnerships between collection and recycling companies.
