Supporting professionals to reduce plastic waste in the sea

L’atelier Bleu CPIE Côte Provençale

The fight against litter, particularly plastic waste, is a stated priority at national and regional level, and is included in the South Region’s 2021 Climate Plan. The town of La Ciotat, a signatory to the ‘zero plastic waste’ and ‘plastic-free beaches’ charters, and ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) support these ambitions through their national and regional actions and initiatives.

The aim of the project is to offer personalised support to certain categories of professionals in La Ciotat in terms of waste reduction, by helping them to implement alternatives. This support will be tailored to the type of professionals involved.

The CPIE proposes to support two types of professionals: retailers (restaurateurs, grocery stores, specialty shops, etc.) and market vendors in La Ciotat. This project therefore has two main focuses:

  • Continuing to support retailers in the centre of La Ciotat, a project that began in 2018
  • Proposing and initiating support for market traders in reducing waste, particularly plastic waste, at La Ciotat markets.
