This project aims to improve plastic waste management on Sazan Island and in Vlora Bay by combining practical measures and awareness-raising activities. It involves setting up a collection and recycling station for plastic bottles and cans, in partnership with the municipality of Vlore and private operators, to facilitate waste sorting for tourists and ensure that it is recycled. Educational materials (information panels on the island, the Karaburun peninsula and in Vlore) and campaigns on social media and in schools and universities will encourage residents and visitors to adopt responsible behaviour. At the same time, pilot actions with local economic stakeholders (bars, tourist boats, fishermen, hotels) will test and promote alternatives to single-use plastics, based on solutions co-developed with them. Finally, to limit the consumption of plastic bottles and bags, sustainable substitutes will be distributed and at least 10 water refill stations will be installed in strategic locations, promoting a lasting change in practices.
