Towards plastic-free healthcare in the Mediterranean

Healthcare without Harm Europe

Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) HCWH is a non profit NGO that brings the voice of healthcare professionals to the European Policy debate. They focus on major environmental health issues and aim to encourage the sector to take action and reduce its environmental impact.

The project aimed to reduce single-use plastic in the medical sector in Europe through assessment and the implementation of best practices at the CARE Medical Institute in Cyprus.

Main results:

  • Dissemination of results and training materials to all CARE Medical Institute staff, with a view to extending the audits to other Cypriot institutions.
  • Conducted a comprehensive plastic waste audit with a detailed report on the method used.
  • Development of a training module on the circular economy in the medical sector, delivered to 236 participants (in person and online), available in five languages.
  • Development of a catalogue of 20 case studies of best practices, accessible to members of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network.
