Abstract

In Bades, near the Mediterranean (Morocco), Fatima knows that plastics washed up on the beach end up in animals’ stomachs. Sensitized by the “Ressacs sans plastiques (BeMed)” project, she and her artisanal cooperative are looking for solutions. Their challenge: to transform this waste into marketable products while cleaning up their environment. Fatima designs a toy bird stuffed with recycled plastic and shares her prototype on Facebook to gather feedback. Inspired by a friend who uses plastic bags in her fabric jewelry, she explores this technique. Other women make reusable bags to package their products and offer plastic plates covered with embroidered fabric. At the same time, the cooperative organizes regular collections of waste washed up on the beach, both from the village and from ocean currents. Their aim is clear: to reduce plastic while developing creative, sustainable and profitable alternatives for their community…
