The European Parliament has voted for a total ban on a range of single-use plastic products in the European Union, with the aim of putting an end to ocean pollution. This proposal aims to reduce the use of disposable plastic food and beverage containers, such as plastic cups.

The project was launched as part of the ban on single-use plastic products voted by the European Parliament. The aim was to inform the public and private sectors of the harmful effects of plastic and to promote a transition to a zero disposable plastic era.

Main results of the project:

  • Development of a “Plastic Free” network: A network of partners has been created, facilitating the linking of organizations and the promotion of the “Plastic Free” strategy.
  • Strategy and zero plastic charter: The “Plastic Free” strategy was developed, with the collaboration of partner organizations to draw up a zero plastic charter.
  • Stakeholder engagement: The project involved 50 schools, 9 public bodies, 20 private companies and 4 NGOs.
