In Algeria, 60 to 80% of plastic waste produced ends up in the sea (of which only 10% is recycled). These statistics show the need to adopt new waste management procedures.
The first Algerian initiative supported by BeMed, Save Sea is carried by Leancubator, an incubator for startups and innovative projects. It aims to launch a program to support projects on 2 specific topics: reducing the use of plastic, and improving the collection, treatment and processing of plastic waste. With this program, Save Sea aims to promote awareness and collective mobilization on the issue of plastic through innovation. As a result, a map of Algerian start-ups dealing with plastic issues will be developed.
