The association “Méditerranée 2000” aimed to support camping and holiday resorts in the improvement of their practices and to raise awareness of the public on site.

Main results of the project :

Méditerranée 2000 developed a diagnostic framework to help accommodation establishments assess their plastic use. This was based on research and interviews with industry stakeholders. The analysis highlighted the widespread presence of single-use plastics, particularly water bottles and disposable cups.

At the same time, regulatory insights and alternative solutions were provided to help establishments transition to plastic-free consumption.

Several educational tools were created, including:

  • A resource comparing various plastic straw alternatives, emphasizing their limitations in terms of sustainability.
  • A presentation contrasting a disposable picnic with a sustainable one, showcasing reusable and practical alternatives.

During awareness-raising events, “zero plastic picnic” kits were distributed to the public, including:

  • Stainless steel straws
  • Insulated bags made from rPET

Interactive and educational quiz nights were also organized, covering topics such as consumption, water, waste, and biodiversity.

Finally, Méditerranée 2000 contacted around thirty accommodation establishments, receiving a positive response, although few felt ready to commit immediately. However, the project was successfully implemented in three pilot establishments:

  • Plateau des Chasses campsite in Mandelieu-la-Napoule
  • Le Club Mougins accommodation center
  • Hotel Martinez in Cannes
