This project aims to improve waste management in a touristic coastal area of Albania. First of all, a database on the types and quantity of plastic the main sea users in the Bay of Vlora use as well as the existing waste management method will be created. From the collected information, specific recommendations will be established for each marine operator in order to minimize the use of plastic, offer alternatives, and improve plastic waste management.
In parallel, informative posters will be put in ports, beach hotels and restaurants of tourist destinations on the Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Island, to raise awareness among the public. The content will be established in cooperation with the protected area’s administration.
Finally, a communication and raising awareness campaign will be conducted. This campaign includes beach clean ups that will be organized in Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Island with young volunteers, municipal administration, administration of protected areas, environment inspectorate, fisheries, scuba SEEP team, casual tourists and boats staff.
