Ulcinj and Velika Plaza are very important tourist destinations in Montenegro. Single-use plastic products and waste management are increasing every year. The aim of this project was to raise public awareness and change behavior related to disposable plastic products, targeting certain groups in particular: schoolchildren, tourists and institutions.

Main results of the project:

The project aimed to raise public awareness of the impact of disposable plastics in the Velika Plaza region through three main actions:

  • Awareness campaigns: Green Life carried out educational activities despite the pandemic, organizing 5 classroom workshops and 3 events on the beaches, bringing together around 150 participants. Three trilingual (Montenegrin, English, Albanian) awareness-raising signs were installed on beaches in the region.
  • Mapping and analysis of waste: A study highlighted the high presence of plastic on the beaches of Velika Plaza. Its results were presented at round tables organized by GIZ, bringing together institutions and NGOs to discuss solutions. These discussions led to an action plan being validated and implemented.
  • Large communication campaign: Green Life disseminated its activities and results via television, radio, the press and social networks. The association also had the opportunity to present its work at a workshop organized by the SCP/RAC in Vlora, Albania.

The project raised awareness among various stakeholders and initiated concrete actions to improve plastic waste management in the region.
