#Zeroplastic, awareness raising campaign against plastic debris and microplastics
The project aimed to raise public awareness of the impacts of marine plastic pollution through the creation of communication materials, the installation of artworks in public spaces, and the involvement of the tourism industry, particularly diving centres, in actions to mitigate marine plastic pollution in Cyprus and Greece.
Main results of the project:
- Creation and exhibition of six posters on plastic pollution in five cafés/bars in Thessaloniki.
- Active social media campaign sharing the #zeroplastic project visuals.
- Translation and distribution of materials in Russian to 24 diving centres in Greece and Cyprus.
- Creation of a mural and three awareness-raising events using stencils with the participation of young people.
- Organisation of events for World Ocean Day, with the illumination of the White Tower and beach clean-ups (more than 300 participants, including 262 young people).
- Training of 17 diving centres in plastic reduction and awareness-raising among more than 2,200 visitors.
- Underwater clean-up in Greece with 350 kg of waste collected; this action was abandoned in Cyprus for seasonal reasons.
