UICN publishes a new report !

As part of its Closing the plastic Tap project, IUCN, an active member of BeMed, has published a new report that aims to better understand plastic pollution in the Mediterranean. The conclusions of the report are based both on data collected in the field and on estimates from a new model developed by the IUCN.

The report answers three essential questions in order to act effectively and reduce this pollution:

  • How much plastic is accumulated in the Mediterranean ?
  • Where are the main geographical sources of leakage in the Mediterranean and what human activities are responsible for this ?
  • What will be the main sources of pollution in the future and what actions can be implemented ?

This work will feed the discussions to set up effective actions in the Mediterranean, in particular through the BeMed network.
