June 26th, 2024 – BeMed’s Community of Practice came together for its 8th meeting, on the theme: “Generating Long-Term Citizen Commitment: Successes and limitations.”
• Enable members to share and promote their expertise
• Identify potential contacts and knowledge-sharing opportunities
This was an opportunity for our members to share information about their respective projects and experiences:
– Pierre-Ange Guidicelli from Marevivu presented the CorSeaCare mission in Corsica. It is a month-long project bringing together young people to combine sport with activities to raise awareness among the general public and children, discussions with public authorities and the implementation of participatory science protocols.
– Magda Cebrián presented the Go Zero Waste App from Minorca. The project consists of engaging Menorca citizen to conduct 30 single-use plastics challenges thanks to an app. The application involves taking a photo of completed challenges: swap a hygiene/cosmetic product for a plastic-free option, buy the bread with a cloth bag, make some homemade cleaning products, or make a recipe without generating any plastic waste… The app is free, collaborative and available to download worldwide in 6 languages.
– Panagiota Koutsofta from the Municipality of Agia Napa (Cyprus) and Philippos Drousiotis from CSTI introduced the “Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic-Free” program, selected in our 2023 call for micro-initiatives, as well as the “Bring Your Cup” initiative, selected in 2024. To maximize awareness, they launched the “Beachinfluencers” campaign, encouraging people to sign up, participate, and inspire others to adopt more sustainable behaviors.
A heartfelt thanks to our speakers for contributing their valuable insights to our community.
