“There is no clean Adriatic from the plastic waste without the Vjose River clean from these wastes”

“There is no free-from-plastic Adriatic Sea without the cleaning of the Vjose River” aims to encourage communities, local government, youth, businesses, and environmental associations located in 6 municipalities through which the River Vjose passes, to protect it from plastic pollution. This in turn, will protect the Adriatic Sea from plastic pollution.

This initiative aims to achieve these goals with several different approaches. On one hand, the initiative aims to establish a coalition between NGOs, local power, local businesses, young people, and local media to promote the management of plastic waste and the elimination of the pollution in the Vjose River. Rewards for proper collection, treatment, and minimization of plastic use will be provided for businesses and the community. For example, a 2% tax reduction will be implemented for local businesses who succeed in releasing zero kg of plastic waste into the environment.

On the other hand, young people in precarious living situations in the targeted area will be employed to collect plastic waste in Vjosa and will be paid at the collection centers for every kg of plastic waste delivered.

Meetings, tv programs, and workshops will be organised to ensure universal involvement and the fulfilment of the project.
