The Fourth Rendez Vous of the BeMed Community

The Community of Practice met again on 21 June. This time, discussions focused on the support that environmental associations can provide to the HoReCa sector (Hotels, Restaurants, Cafés). Two projects involving the sector were highlighted:

The work of Save the Med, with Plastic Free Balearics certification, a real tool for engaging the HoReCa sector. Several tools have been developed to support this work:

  • The Honest Alternatives to Plastic Index (HAPI), which compares several alternatives to determine which has the least environmental impact.
  • An online platform for self-diagnosis, enabling individuals and professionals to be recommended the most environmentally friendly alternatives they can implement.
  • A Guide To Honest Alternatives bringing together all the information for the HoReCa sector.

As for BeMed, this was an opportunity to present to the members of the Community the turnkey method that we have already told you about and that is available here.

Every year, millions of people travel to enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle. The HoReCa sector is a key sector at Mediterranean level. Yet this sector is a major consumer of single-use plastics. The fight against plastic pollution in the Mediterranean is strengthened by these opportunities to exchange and share best practice and concrete tools.
